One day at lunch, Fred’s friends let him know that they are concerned about his diet. He doesn’t want to listen, because he loves the sweet taste and bursts of energy he gets from eating lots of sugar. Luckily, a group of singing healthy food intervenes and educates Fred about the importance of eating a balanced diet from all five food groups. Now, Fred’s ready to start a nutritional diet. Interior: School cafeteria 3 CHILDREN ARE SEATED AT A FOLDING CAFETERIA TABLE, BETTY BARKER, MARCUS SNARKUS, FRED SMERTZ. MARCUS AND BETTY ARE LAYING OUT THEIR SNACKS TO EAT. FRED SITS QUIETLY WITH HIS PAPER BAG WATCHING THEM WITH GREAT INTEREST. MARCUS HAS A NEAT DISPLAY OF HEALTHY LOOKING SNACK FOOD: CARROTS, FRUIT, AND WHOLE GRAIN CRACKERS. EACH TIME SOMETHING HEALTHY IS SET ON THE TABLE FRED GIVES A LOOK OF DISGUST. HE MUTTERS AND GROANS. BETTY HAS SOME RICE CAKES, CELERY, CANTALOUPE, PEANUT BUTTER AND LOW FAT YOGURT. BOTH HAVE BOTTLES OF CLEAR WATER. MARCUS TAKES A BITE OF A CARROT AND CLEARLY ENJOYS IT. BETTY TAKES A BITE OF HER CELERY DIPPED IN PEANUT BUTTER. BETTY I love celery and peanut butter! It's a great combination of crunchy and smooshie! Want some Fred? CUT TO FRED. HE PICKS UP HIS PAPER BAG. FRED No thanks, silly willy. I brought my own lunch. FRED HOLDS THE PAPER BAG UPSIDE DOWN OVER HIS HEAD AND A TON OF JUNK FOOD ITEMS START TO TUMBLE OUT. THERE ARE CUPCAKES, COOKIES AND CHOCOLATE SUGAR BOMBS. THE PILE BECOMES QUITE LARGE. CUT TO BETTY. HER EYES POP OPEN IN SURPRISE. BETTY Fred, your lunch is all fat and sugar! Don't you have anything healthy? FRED You bet your sweet bippy I do! Behold! FRED IS HOLDING WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN ORDINARY SANDWICH. MARCUS LOOKS AT THE SANDWICH WITH SUSPICION. MARCUS GRABS THE SANDWICH. MARCUS Let me see that! MARCUS PULLS OFF THE TOP PIECE OF BREAD TO REVEAL 3 CUPCAKES. MARCUS I don't think a cupcake sandwich is considered healthy. You know Fred… if you keep eating this way you won't feel very good. BETTY …and you won't have enough energy to keep up in school. FRED I get all the energy I need from sugar. You should see what I can do after downing a 3liter bottle of CRAZY COLA! BETTY I think we all remember what that cola did to you... LOST SFX DREAM TRANSITION TO A SHOT OF FRED DOWNING A WHOLE 3 LITER BOTTLE OF SODA. AFTER HE DRAINS IT, HIS EYES EXPAND AND THE PUPILS DILATE. HE GET A WIGGED OUT LOOK ON HIS FACE AND ZIPS OFF SCREEN AT HYPER SPEED. WIDE SHOT OF FRED RUNNING AROUND AND BOUNCING OFF OF THINGS ALA DAFFY DUCK. HE THROWS AND CATCHES A FOOTBALL, FLIES THROUGH THE MONKEY BARS AND RACES PAST A CHEETAH. AFTER A DAZZLING DISPLAY OF CHAOTIC ENERGY HE SUDDENLY FREEZES IN MID AIR WITH A BRAKE SCREECH SFX. WE SMASH-STUTTER INTO FRED'S PUPILS WHICH BECOME PIN POINTS. HE DOES A SLO-MO FACE PLUNGE TOWARD THE GROUND. BOOM! LOST REVERSAL SFX FRED IS CRASHED OUT ON THE FLOOR AND IN THE BACKGROUND IS A SMOKING RUIN OF WHAT WAS ONCE A NORMAL SCHOOL. DISSOLVE BACK TO TODAY. FRED AHHH…That seems just like yesterday. BETTY Fred, it WAS yesterday. Marcus Sugar may give you some short-term energy but it's not the right kind of energy your body needs. FRED Good to know… I'll file that away in the ol' noggin here. Now…time to eat! FRED'S ATTENTION GOES BACK TO HIS LUNCH. A BIT OF DROOL RUNS FROM THE CORNER OF FRED'S MOUTH ALA (HOMER SIMPSON). MARCUS Sugary foods are OK as an occasional treat and in small amounts but you need to eat a balanced diet to be healthy and stay healthy. BETTY There are lots of healthy snacks that taste great! Things like whole grain crackers or pretzels, fruits and vegetables, or low fat yogurt and cheese. FRED Really? FRED'S MIND BEGINS TO WANDER A BIT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FOOD ON THE TABLE COMES TO LIFE. THEY BEGIN TO SING A 50s DOO WOP SONG. HEALTHY FOOD S AND UNHEALTHY FOODS FACE OFF IN A WESTSIDE STORY TYPE SETTING. Our musician reworked the lyrics a bit. FRED REACHES INTO HIS POCKET. WE SEE MORE CANDY AND JUNK FOOD FALL OUT OF HIS PANTS. FRED And this...and this...and this and oh, yeah this... FRED CONTINUES TO PULL OUT MORE RIDICULOUS TREATS LIKE ICE CREAM BARS, CANDY BARS, A BBQ PIG, ETC. HE HANDS THEM ALL TO MARCUS AND BETTY. FRED SLAMS DOWN A BIRTHDAY CAKE CANDLES AND ALL. HE BLOWS THE CANDLES OUT AND STICKS HIS FINGER IN THE FROSTING. FRED This may take awhile Marcus? Fade to black.
